Job Description
Position: Community Engagement Associate (Paid Internship)
Reports to: Program Manager / Lead Artists
Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week for six months, schedule can be flexibly set.
Start Date: Early January 2022
Salary: $17 p/h

CALL // City as Living Laboratory works with artists, scientists, and residents of urban communities to create sustainable solutions for urgent environmental issues including climate, equity and health. We help people connect environmental challenges to personal experience and take action. Founded by artist Mary Miss in 2009, CALL produces ambitious projects which grow out of grassroots environmental concerns in the neighborhoods they are situated in. CALL's current major projects are based in New York City and Milwaukee, in addition to a growing national initiative.

The Community Engagement Associate will support our Rescuing Tibbetts Brook projects through spring 2022, starting with our Tibbetts Estuary Tapestry project. The Tibbetts Estuary Tapestry, by Ana De La Cueva and Matthew Lpez-Jensen, will invite the public to participate in a reimagining of the corridor of Broadway from Van Cortlandt Park to the Harlem River as a tapestry of green roofs. To create the tapestry, up to 100 volunteers are embroidering their visions of green spaces onto a textile map. This communal process will ignite peoples' imaginations and point to real opportunities for modest interventions that collectively could change the urban landscape in significant ways and make it more sustainable through greening and storm-water capture. This role will be based 50% in CALL's Manhattan office and 50% in the Northwest Bronx. Candidates who reside, study in, or have a strong connection to the North West Bronx are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the artists in assembling, distributing, and collecting participant kits
- Updating websites and social media platforms
- Assisting with the production of online projects and events
- Acting as a first point of contact for community members participating in the project
- Following up with participants to troubleshoot and provide accountability
- Translating and copyediting online and print materials
- Carrying out administrative tasks and other responsibilities related to the project goals.

Requirements:
o Prior professional experience, through work, volunteering or other internships.
o Interest in sustainability, urban planning and/or contemporary art
o Reliability and commitment to responsibilities
o Confidence engaging with new people
o Excellent organizational skills and technical savvy (experience with Asana is a plus!)
o Self-direction and ability to work remotely 50% of the time.

- Candidates must be currently pursuing an academic qualification or have completed a higher education degree program within the last year.

- Bilingual in English and Spanish, both spoken and written

To apply, please send your resume and brief cover letter highlighting why you think you are a good candidate for this internship and what you love about the Bronx to info@cityaslivinglab.org with "Community Engagement Associate" in the subject line. Applications are due by December 16th, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis; early applications are encouraged.
